Medical footcare

Medical footcare extends beyond nailcare.

Our feet support us throughout our entire life, so it’s important to pay attention to them by giving them regular podiatric care. If your feet are hurting, you have an ingrowing toenail or an uncomfortable corn, you’ve come to the right place.

Podiatrists with a Federal VET Diploma follow a three-year training course. Their tasks include:

  • Medical history: recording customer- / patient-specific data
  • Nail treatments: cutting nails properly, treating onychocryptosis (ingrowing toenails), nail mycosis (fungal nails) and onychauxis (thickened nails)
  • Hyperkeratosis treatments: removing calluses
  • Removing corns: professional ablation of corns
  • Orthonyxia: special bracing technology for ingrowing toenails
  • Dressings: applying pressure-relieving and protective dressings
  • Orthopaedics: silicone toe correctors and pressure-relief devices
  • Nail prosthetics: artificial replacement nails
  • Foot and lower leg massage: as a therapeutic measure or to boost wellbeing
  • General and personalized advice on pressure-relieving and footcare products, shoes and orthopaedic aids, etc.

Who are our customers / patients?

  • Anyone who values pain-free, well-groomed feet.
  • People who can no longer look after their own feet.
  • Anyone who has any sort of problem or pain in their feet.
  • Diabetics, people on blood-thinning medication, those suffering from rheumatism, customers / patients with circulatory disorders of either an arterial or a venous nature.
  • People needing follow-up treatment after operations.

Podiatry treatments are challenging. We are a member of the Swiss Podiatry Association (SPV). This ensures that you and your foot problems are in safe, qualified hands. We also provide our staff with regular ongoing training.

Special treatments

Per Piedi's medical footcare also includes massages.

This classic massage primarily regulates the muscle tone. This effect comes about through improved circulation and metabolism at the massage site, triggered by stimulating the nerves in the skin and muscles. It also has a positive effect on the human psyche. Massage relaxes, calms and boosts general wellbeing.

With toe orthotics, Per Piedi can relieve pain instantly.

Individual, made-to-measure orthotics mean we can instantly alleviate pain and pressure. We can also mechanically correct toe alignment.

Potential areas of use:

  • Relieving hammer toes, claw toes and crossover toes
  • Relieving corns on any part of the foot
  • Relieving hallux valgus / quintus varus
  • Relieving recent operation scars
  • Relieving onychocryptosis (ingrowing toenails)

The orthotic consists of a two-part silicone elastomer in various pressure-relieving or corrective Shore hardnesses. This material is durable and well tolerated.

For painful ingrowing toenails, we can use various types of toenail brace to achieve the following:

  • Correct the nail
  • Create a natural nail width
  • Immediately relieve pain and pressure
  • Relieve pressure on the nailbed

Potential areas of use

  • Onychocryptosis (ingrowing toenail)
  • Corns in the nail fold
  • Lateral pressure sensitivity
  • Incorrectly cut toenails
  • Toenails that have been traumatized / operated upon

Orthonyxia (bracing) has the following benefits compared with surgery:

  • The nail and tip of toe remain intact
  • No scarring
  • Reduced pain
  • Orthonyxia can be used in almost all cases
Per Piedi uses titanium braces for its bracing technology.

Titanium braces

  • Titanium wire is available in three different strengths.
  • The composite fixing material has been tried and tested in dentistry.
Per Piedi uses B/S braces for its bracing technology.

B / S braces

  • Made of reinforced Duroplast fibreglass.
Per Piedi uses Goldstadt braces for its bracing technology.

Goldstadt braces

  • Made of gilded stainless steel.
The nail plate is restored using a Per Piedi replacement nail.
Gel material consists of a monophase plastic made of resin which is then light-cured.

Where part of the nail is lost, or where nails are thin and brittle, we recommend a gel coating or replacement nail to preserve the nail bed. Gel replacement nails are used to restore the nail plate and prevent the nail from becoming ingrown. This also optimizes the aesthetic appearance.

Can be used for:

  • Thin, brittle, cracked nails
  • Nails broken due to trauma (injury)
  • Nail loss following excess pressure, accidents or chemical action
  • Ingrowing nails
  • Nails that have been operated on
  • Incorrectly cut toenails
  • Corns (clavi) beneath nails
Per Piedi uses taping for functional and mechanical corrections.

Taping is used for functional and mechanical correction. It can provide passive support and is also used to alleviate pain.

Per Piedi uses taping for functional and mechanical corrections.

Can be used for:

  • Hallux valgus complaints
  • Splay foot complaints
  • Hammer toe complaints
  • To support ingrowing toenails
  • Knee problems
  • Fallen arches / pes valgus
  • Haglund heel
  • Lymphatic problems
  • Heel spurs
  • Following operations for hammer toes / claw toes
Per Piedi treats warts, liver spots, skin lesions and strawberry marks.

Cryotherapy is the controlled destruction of unwanted tissue by the precise application of extreme cold using nitrous oxide N2O (laughing gas). This quickly freezes the tissue, reducing its temperature from +37°C to -27°C.

Potential areas of use:

  • All types of wart (mosaic warts, plantar warts, warts in children and young people, verrucas, etc.)
  • Liver spots
  • Aesthetic skin lesions
  • Strawberry marks (haemangiomas)

Medical history

A podiatry treatment starts by taking a comprehensive and precise medical history. The history gives the podiatrist a picture of the patient concerned. This results in findings that form the basis of all treatment measures (therapy or treatment plans), preventative measures and advice that are needed to remedy or alleviate the foot complaints.

By enquiring in-depth into existing illnesses or problems, the podiatrist is able to establish a solid foundation for personalized advice and further treatment.

Obtaining a thorough medical history forms an integral part of the diagnosis. Not least, it serves to ensure that the podiatrist enquires about existing illnesses and additional risk factors. At the same time, the patient feels they are being taken seriously, which forms an excellent basis for subsequent advice and treatment.

It is also important that we document the treatment process. This allows us to refer back to any treatment or findings that took place in the past.

At-risk patients

Podiatrists specialize in treating at-risk patients. All per piedi staff have completed a training course on treating diabetics.

Per Piedi specializes in treating at-risk patients.

At-risk patients are people with an increased risk with regard to delayed wound healing and / or infection.

Patients with a reduced, impaired or missing perception of pain, pressure, injury, cold or heat are at risk because they can no longer feel injuries, inflammation or infection in their feet. A reduced ability to ward off infection as a result of illness and / or therapy, as well as decreased blood circulation, increase the risk of injuries healing badly or failing to heal, which may lead to amputation, for example.

If you are suffering from one of the following conditions, you've come to the right place:

  • Metabolic disorders (e.g. diabetes mellitus with polyneuropathy, sclerodermia, etc.)
  • Rheumatic diseases (e.g. chronic polyarthritis)
  • Circulatory disorders (arterial or venous)
  • Geriatric patients
  • Patients with neurological factors (e.g. polyneuropathy, paralysis, multiple sclerosis, poliomyelitis, etc.)
  • People on medication (e.g. immunosuppressants, anticoagulants or cortisone)
  • Haemorrhagic disease (haemophilia) and a tendency to bleed (haemorrhagic diathesis)
  • Infectious diseases (e.g. methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus – MRSA)
  • Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAD) stage 2 or more
  • Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI)
  • All diseases of the vascular system with an increased risk of impaired wound healing and infection (e.g. Buerger's disease, Raynaud syndrome, etc.)
  • Long-term or continuous anticoagulant therapy
